Privacy

Privacy and confidentiality have been a huge concern when it comes to new media. Many social media platforms, if not all, allow one to create a profile of their most basic information. In order for one to even use a social media platform, one would have to create a profile which allows them to share their personal data to contribute to the platform. Many users, often times, share more information than asked for which creates issues of privacy and confidentiality. Many big companies, ex: Facebook has had privacy issues where hackers breached their security and intrude into their systems, essentially stealing a user’s personal information. This eventually led to potential scams that have harmed victims financially. Viruses and hackers are the biggest problems related to new media and they create an ordeal for the daily new media users. Many social media companies have taken precaution because their user’s privacy is important to them, they want to keep the trust they have with their users.

  1. It's good you noted that the main platforms that we use on a daily basis such as Facebook have privacy, confidentiality, and breach of data issues. I think it's a scary thing when hackers or even those who buy our information from Fb easily get access to our lives, histories, preferences, pictures and etc. Ever since issues such as the ones mentioned above arose, I decided to not use Facebook anymore just because I just don't feel comfortable having that much exposure to parties that have no relation to me at all.
