Social Networking

Social Network has been a commonly used trend since the rise of technology. It’s being used almost everywhere in personal ways and in social ways as well. Since social networking has been growing rapidly and has been so common in our culture, many companies have started using social networks as a way to market and promote their business as well as staying in touch with the public. There aren’t that many businesses that aren’t using social networks because nowadays, companies want to be easily accessible to their customers. There are many uses for social networks and one main use can be for customer service. Many businesses use Twitter, Reddit, and Facebook as a platform to reach out to customers to provide some sort of assistance and many businesses use these specific type of social media is because of how many people use it. According to Great Wall of Facebook: The Social Network’s Plan to Dominate the Internet – and Keep Google Out, it states, “Facebook was more than a fast-growing social network. It was, potentially, an enormous source of personal data. Internet users behaved differently on Facebook than anywhere else online: They used their real names, connected with their real friends, linked to their real email addresses, and shared their real thoughts, tastes, and news.” which provides the reason on why many businesses use the Facebook because it’s popularly used in our culture today. What most companies are trying to implement is convenience and it is very beneficial. We, as consumers, are able to find out information much quicker than ever before.

Although there are many positive aspects of using Facebook, there is a negative aspect.  The popular social network has been under fire due to privacy issues and due to scams. According to NBC2 Investigators: Multi-million dollar scam being used on Facebook, the social network, Facebook, has attracted many “crooks” as the article states. Many people have been posting fake ads of items such as cars, essentially claiming that they are “selling” it, posting up an affordable price to attract buyers into thinking they are completely an actual transaction when in reality, it’s fraud. People have lost so much money to these scams and it’s become very dangerous. Technology is going to advance even more so in the future and scams like these can only get worse and sadly, easier. I hope Facebook can really evaluate their network and work on how to reduce these scams in the future as technology advances.
